I became curious after hearing some opinions about Taylor's future bankability as a movie star, so I went to the statistics. I looked at all the movies made by Taylor, Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson since the first Twilight movie came out in November 2008. I used Wikipedia for film production costs and worldwide box office totals. The movies are listed below in order of multiples of earnings compared to cost:
NO. WHO MOVIE PROFITABILITY COST BOX OFFICE
1 Taylor Valentine's Day 4.15 $ 52million $216,485,562
2 Rob Remember Me 3.5 $ 16million $ 56,032,889
3 Rob Water for Elephants 3.1 $ 38million $117,094,902
4 Taylor Abduction 2.78 $ 35million $ 82,087,155
5 Kristen Snow White 2.35 $170million $396,397,203
ALL OTHER EIGHT FILMS SINCE 2008 BY ROB AND KRISTEN LOST MONEY, TWO OVER $15million.
Taylor has a knack for being associated with moneymakers, including this summer's upcoming release of Grownups 2. So think about the statistics above and think about how much venom was heaped on Abduction, while Rob's Bel Ami lost money and received a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of only 28%, same as Abduction received. Somehow this information passed silently into the ether. My question is, is there something else going on here to explain the differential treatment?
